Research abstract

Pulsed high energy lasers offer several advantages when compared to alternative directed energy defenses. While the advantages of high intensity pulsed irradiation are often leveraged for industrial purposes, these sources have not been properly transitioned onto defense platforms, including military aircraft. The Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) reductions required for defense platform integration may be realized by using modular, compact, ruggedized, and scalable laser architectures made possible through 3D printing and additive manufacturing techniques. Spectral Energies (SE) will partner with Purdue and their 3D/additive manufacturing partners to demonstrate new pathways for pulsed laser fabrication, achieving new architectures that conform to military platform deployment. SE’s existing pulsed laser platforms have the potential to support a broad range of relevant military applications if conformity to deployable SWaP standards can be achieved. This will be realized through the combination of SE’s versatile pulsed laser capabilities and Purdue’s 3D manufacturing capabilities. Approved for Public Release | 25-MDA-12220 (23 Sep 25)
