Research abstract

In this effort, Foster-Miller proposes to continue development of a novel approach for rapid remove and replace gap sealants for maintaining low observable characteristics. In Phase I, Foster-Miller considered various concepts, examined them viaanalytical design methods, and performed laboratory fabrication and testing efforts to determine the most feasible approach. The result, described in more detail in this proposal, is a technical concept that allows for rapid remove and replacement ofaircraft gap sealants and significantly reduces downtime and labor hours associated with LO maintenance and repair. The Phase II proposal discusses the problem; details potential solutions; identifies technical objectives; provides a detailed task andwork plan for accomplishing the objectives; and includes information documenting Foster-Miller's ability to perform the specified effort. In order to make sure the technology can be transitioned, Foster-Miller has assembled a strong team involvingairframe manufacturing and repair capability, electromagnetics expertise, and gap sealant materials expertise. Details are provided within the body of this proposal. (P-01313)
