Research abstract

The NAVSEA aims to improve its Sustainment and Obsolescence efforts by incorporating advance digital technologies, including digital twins, extended reality (XR) and artificial intelligence (AI). This initiative aims to enhance maintenance efficiency and asset readiness, streamlining operations, minimizing human error, and optimizing workflows using rapid Digital Twins technology for maintenance operations and sustainment. GridRaster proposes an AI-powered Dynamic XR solution that harnesses the latest advancements in immersive XR interfaces, artificial intelligence, and cloud technologies. This solution is open, modular, highly precise, and scalable that enhances efficiency, automation, and productivity in manufacturing, training, maintenance operations and sustainment.  The key technological advancements achieved by GridRaster include:•           Fast and Accurate 3D Spatial Mapping in Open Data Format using COTS XR Devices •           Marker-less Automatic Scene Segmentation and Object Registration using 3D AI and Machine Vision•           Precision 3D Alignment and Overlay Rendering During the proposed Phase I effort, GridRaster will perform a comprehensive feasibility study within the NAVSEA operational environment and demonstrate the capabilities and workflow of GridRaster’s system for the following use cases: Maintenance Operations: Overlay models on physical assets to provide active task guidance during maintenance and remote expert support. Sustainment: Continuous log repair process to keep a record of history of repair and provide traceability of the repairs in 3D for sustainment record. QA & Inspection: Enable automated QA and inspection tasks to detect defects/anomalies/deviations. This Phase I effort establishes feasibility for a Phase II build-out of the proposed solution for enhanced maintenance efficiency and asset readiness, streamlining operations, minimizing human error, and optimizing workflows using rapid Digital Twins technology for maintenance operations and sustainment.
