Research abstract

Bryka Skystocks LLC proposes developing an Advanced Thermal Management System specifically designed for satellite applications. This innovative system leverages multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) integrated into a silicone polymer matrix to deliver superior thermal conductivity and self-regulation capabilities. The ATMS will address the critical need to maintain stable operating temperatures in satellite components, extending their operational lifespan and reliability in the harsh space environment. The core of our solution involves the precise control of MWCNT concentration within the silicone matrix, achieving electrical resistivity in the range of 1.5 to 10 Ohm-cm. The system features a multi-layer construction with a Kapton HN film base layer, ensuring mechanical stability and advanced cerium oxide coatings (5 microns) and boron nitride (3 microns) for exceptional radiation resistance. This design provides uniform heat distribution and effective thermal regulation within the target range of -5°C to 20°C.Our approach includes detailed thermal and electrical simulations using ANSYS and COMSOL Multiphysics, optimizing the system's performance under operational space conditions. Rigorous stress and durability assessments, including extensive thermal cycling tests, will validate the ATMS's reliability and longevity. Standardized manufacturing protocols utilizing high-shear mixing and Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) processes will ensure consistent quality and scalability for large-scale production. By integrating the ATMS into geostationary satellites, we aim to enhance thermal management, improve component longevity, and ensure reliable satellite performance in the most demanding space environments.
