Research abstract

THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS EFFORT IS TO DEVELOP A "ROBOT FRIENDLY" NONMAGNETIC VELCRO-TYPE FASTENER FOR USE IN FUSION REACTORS. SUCH A FASTENER COULD SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCE THE COMPLEXITY AND THUS IMPROVE THE RELIABILITY OF REMOTELY ATTACHING SUCH ITEMS AS HEAT PROTECTIVE TILES, INSULATION, INSTRUMENTATON LINES, AND OTHER ITEMS IN OR ON THE REACTOR. THE FASTENER COULD PROVIDE A SUPERIOR MOUNTING TECHNIQUE FOR ITEMS SUCH AS HEAT PROTECTIVE TILES THAT CAN UNDERGO SIGNIFICANT THERMAL DISTORTION.
