Research abstract

The objective of the Phase I effort is to develop a technology that enables the procurement of equipment with current Tier 4 engines, allowing for their operation during expeditionary missions using JP-8 fuel supplies. Spectral Energies proposes a method for removing sulfur-sensitive engine components, with the engine being recalibrated as necessary to meet Tier 3 emissions standards. To support component selection and assess the required engine calibration changes, a system-level model of the target engine will be developed. This modeling solution will facilitate the capture of responses to various perturbations, such as engine speed and fueling rate. Phase I will focus on a feasibility study of the proposed concept, while prototype system manufacturing and testing will be conducted in Phase II.
