Research abstract

Massively parallel clusters of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) computers provide the best opportunity for cost-effective missile flowfield solutions, but extensions to CFD and hardware are needed before their routine application to real problems can beeffective. This joint CRAFT Tech/COLSA effort, with cooperative support from Apple, entails such improvements to both software and hardware for the efficient and cost-effective analysis of missile plume/divert jet flowfields on Apple G4 and PC-basedclusters. In Phase I, G4 performance was found to be promising, the need for 64-bit architecture (for reacting plumes) was demonstrated, and varied
