Research abstract

The fiber/polymer interfacial adhesion in a biodegradable composite determines the mechanical integthe initial (dry) interfacial adhesion is enhanced through the use of coupling agents or other surfadestroyed as the fiber breakdown. Up until now, biodegradable composites have tended to lose their pbecause of this phenomenon. The Phase I study will develop nanometer thick durable surface coatingsfibers that will provide fiber/polymer interfacial stability for up to 3 months. Once the surface ladegradation will proceed at a faster rate. Composites with "gradient chemical durability fibers" couintegrity plus degrade in the prescribed time frame.
