Research abstract

ITER is an important next step for the worldwide fusion community and an important program for the U.S. Department of Energy. For this reason, it was listed as the highest priority in the twenty-year outlook of DOE facilities. The success of ITER requires that the facility is optimally used to reach the best possible conditions. To obtain maximal returns on this investment it is critical to have computational tools which will help optimize the design and provide theoretical insights into the experimental results. Critical to this is modeling the edge plasma, as the edge pedestal is dominant in determining plasma performance. The present US leading edge
