Research abstract

The firm proposes to conduct a research on turboshaft engine control and accessory technologies. The specific technology to be developed a simplified, unsteady-flow dynamic model of an engine gas generator which is suitable for the analysis and design of advanced turbine engine controls. Two motivations of the proposed work are: 1) a lack of efficient model to support the design and simulation of advanced engine controls, 2) a lack of attention to the coupling between active compressor and combustor controls. The significance of the proposed work is in three areas: 1) developing an integrated, simplified model of the (unsteady flow and shaft) dynamics of compressor and combustor; 2) allowing systematic analysis of the coupling effects among the three basic components; and 3) conducting control analysis for actuator sizing and sensor/actuator placement.
