Research abstract

Foster-Miller proposes to design and develop a new knitted undergarment with an integrated sensor system. This design provides the necessary performance and sensor configuration options within a low-cost, comfortable, fault tolerant undergarment. Thetextile can be a platform for Combat Casualty Care, Warfighter Physiological Status Monitoring, and other types of sensors. In the Phase I program, we will design, produce, and test samples of the knitted textile. We will also develop sensor attachmentand integration methods, as well as demonstrate the transfer of data from the undergarment to the central hub through clothing layers. The various aspects of the system will be integrated into a single demonstrator in the Option to the Phase I program.(P-020516) A truly rugged and comfortable physiological monitoring system will have applications in the medical field, allowing remote monitoring and greater outpatient care, as well as for athlete training and feedback. In the military, a wear-and-forget systemwill enable both the monitoring of a soldier's physiological status and improved combat casualty care.
