Research abstract
AbstractIn the evolving landscape of electronic warfare, the need for adaptive and resilient communication systems has never been more critical. We propose the development of an advanced communication system utilizing Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) to transmit and receive Low Probability of Intercept (LPI) and Low Probability of Detection (LPD) waveforms. Our solution emphasizes in-field reconfigurability and the ability to simultaneously handle multiple waveforms, providing unparalleled flexibility and security.Technical Overview:Our project aims to create a cutting-edge FPGA-based communication system designed to dynamically transmit and receive LPI/LPD waveforms. The system’s core strength lies in its ability to be reconfigured in real-time while deployed, allowing it to adapt to evolving threats and operational requirements without downtime. This capability is complemented by its support for simultaneous transmission and reception of multiple waveforms, enhancing operational versatility and robustness.Reconfigurable Waveform Generation and Transmission:We will develop sophisticated FPGA-based algorithms that can generate complex LPI/LPD waveforms. These algorithms will enable real-time adjustments to waveform parameters, including frequency, phase, and modulation schemes, in response to changing tactical scenarios and threat environments. The reconfigurability ensures that the system can quickly adapt to emerging electronic warfare strategies, maintaining secure communications even under dynamic conditions.Adaptive Multi-Waveform Reception and Decoding:Our system will employ advanced signal processing techniques on FPGAs to adaptively receive and decode multiple LPI/LPD waveforms concurrently. This feature will allow the system to efficiently synchronize and process different signals, maximizing communication security and effectiveness in complex electromagnetic environments where traditional systems might falter.Scalability and Simple Integration:Designed for scalability, the FPGA-based system will integrate seamlessly into existing military and commercial communication frameworks. It will support a wide range of operational scenarios, from short-range tactical communications to long-range strategic transmissions, making it a versatile tool for secure, multi-waveform communications.Extensibility:The modular architecture of our FPGA framework ensures extensibility, allowing for the seamless incorporation of future advancements in communication technologies. This framework can be expanded to include additional waveform types, integrate new signal processing algorithms, and adapt to emerging threats and requirements. By supporting software updates and modular hardware enhancements, the system can evolve to meet the changing needs of military communication without requiring complete redesigns, thereby extending its operational lifespan and maximizing investment value.
