Research abstract

The overall technical objective of this program is to develop the technology base for the selective denial of facilities engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction (WMD). This ability to declare an exclusionary "keep out" zone is also of relabence to the need for other types of area denial. The approach is to adapt the high energy acoustic beam weapon technologies (developed at SARA Inc) for the creation of the facility/area denial effect. The high power acoustic beam weapon concept provides a directed energy weapon technology with unique capabilities for area denial. This approach will make use of efficient combustion driven acoustic beam generators that allow the use of a common fuel to produce the weapon beam. Application of phased array and nonlinear acoustic interactions will greatly extend the effective range of the denial effect, while providing unique weapons interactions with the target facility. Anticipated Benefits: This technology has very significant potential to support a variety of related missions includind border security, hostage scenarios, anti-terrorism, FBI/ATF operations, DEA drug interdiction activity, National Guard/civil unrest crisis situations. In addition, the transmission of intense acoustic beams, will provide novel commercial applications including; insect irradication, fire control and remote demolition.
