Research abstract

QuesTek proposes to develop cost-effective dual-hard steel armor using Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) technologies, and demonstrate feasibility through validation of properties in this Phase I SBIR. Dual-hard armor has mass efficiencies that exceed that of rolled homogeneous armor (RHA) and thus can enable weight reduction in components while maintaining the same level of protection. QuesTek will work with domestic companies with processing capabilities for these materials and configuration that can be readily scalable beyond the SBIR program to make dual-hard armor more readily available to the Army, and ensure that it can be integrated with vehicle structures.
