Research abstract

The following proposal describes a means of integrating a field tunable electrical discharge (sting) system into ballistically delivered snare net system thereby providing the user with a flexible response to a broad range of tactical situations. The proposed tunable sting subsystem allows the shooter to preselect the effect on the target. At low settings the net will perform only as an ensnarement weapon which will delay flight and make physical resistance more difficult. In the case where there is a high risk associated with an armed adversary the shooter can maximize the setting which will make any form of resistance impossible. The proposed system takes maximum advantage of existing and ongoing research by complimenting net and deployment designs by FMI and several fuzing an delivery weapons designs by other companies. The proposed program effort will concentrate on incorporating existing medical information on shock levels into the system design, reviewing snare net data to determine the best wiring pattern in conjunction with the medical advice and confirming circuit designs which must account for potential short-circuits, and survivability of the sting subsystem the physical shock of deployment and capture.
