Research abstract

New ideas are presented on the covalent attachment of chelating functionalitiesto novel, highly hydrophilic sobent material, which can then complex heavy metalions irreversibly and is targeted toward lead removal. The efficient removal ofother heavy metals, such as cadmium, chromium, mercury, zinc, nickel, cobalt, andcooper are anticipated. The covalent attached ligands are expected to be stabletowards hydrolysis and pH variations. The capacity of the chemically modifiedsorbent materials will be evaluated for the above mentioned heavy metal ions inthe presence of calcium and magnesium ions and for simulated water samples. Thesorbent material and the eluted water samples containing multi-elements beforeand after sorption will be examined by sensitive analytical methods.
