Research abstract

Under this Phase 2 SBIR Program, Arete Associates will develop, test, and deliver low-cost autonomous Micro-UUVs (Unmanned Undersea Vehicles) with an integrated sensor package providing rapid-response situational-awareness for the Navy.   Micro-UUV’s top level requirement is low-cost resulting in an attritable capability – “platforms that are unmanned and built affordably, allowing commanders to tolerate a higher degree of risk in employing them.”  The new Micro-UUV will leverage existing frameworks developed by the MK18 Family of Systems (FoS) for front-end mission planning and post mission analysis (PMA).  Micro-UUV will be designed as a recoverable vehicle that communicates in-mission using ACOMMs and while on the surface using a RF radio on its mast.  Micro-UUV will leverage Arete’s innovate low Size, Weight, Power, and Cost (low-SWaP-C) sensor and processing technologies for optical and acoustic sensing.
