Research abstract

The goal of the Phase II is to leverage shipboard digital assets including data from operations and maintenance to increase mission readiness and effectiveness, situational awareness, and utilization of condition across ship and Battle Group. Specifically, how do we provide the human actor (CO, XO, sailor, maintainer, planner, decision maker) with the tools and information necessary in keeping military assets ready. The starting point of the effort is to provide Operational Condition Based Maintenance Plus (CBM+) for single ships as well as across a connected Battle Group; this Battle Group willĀ include Allies, Partners, and Friends. With the advancement of digital capabilities and the hyper flow of data from industrial items such as engines, pumps, and motors, we believe it is now possible to utilize the same information that helps to determine if and when equipment will fail with a near real-time understanding of the impact of failure based upon mission need, fuel availability, personnel on hand and partner capability. Currently this process happens over long periods of time, and there is a very limited feedback loop to being able to act upon the information learned. This project explores those aspects of mission readiness and performance with an emphasis on how that visibility and operational insight can be acted upon.
