Research abstract

During this proposed SBIR program, PSI will develop and demonstrate application of a real-time rotor hub health monitoring system with the goal of minimizing rotor craft lost test time (LTT). Currently there is noĀadequate technology to detect the onset of a rotor hub harness failure in real time, before a signal becomes intermittent or the damage has already been experienced, which leads to LTT. Physical Sciences Inc. (PSI) proposes to develop a Smart Triggering-Rotor Hub Imaging System (ST-RHIS) that will generate real-time ōstillö images, enabling motionless rotor hub visualization in spite of its spinning at up to 3000 rpm. The proposed technique allows for configuring a low-cost system that can provide high resolution still images of the rotor. Real time images will be streamed as video to the operator.Ā At the end of Phase I, PSI will demonstrate the capability in a scaled down configuration that will be ruggedized into a field deployable product during Phase II. We will fully integrate the proposed ST-RHIS system into NFAC video system with active assistance from NFAC personnel by the end of Phase II.
