Research abstract

The overall goal of this SBIR program is to develop integrated, quantum enhanced RF sensors using nonlinear optical waveguides for high performance, low SWaP antenna remoting and RF sensing applications. Traditional RF sensors are limited by photodetector power handling, link optical power, and modulator sensitivity. While each of these components are undergoing incremental improvements, they do not provide a step change improvement in RF sensor performance. In this program, AdvR and MIT Lincoln Laboratory will design and implement a quantum boosted interferometer which promises ~10dB sensitivity improvements compared to current state-of-the-art. The base technology has been demonstrated by the MIT-LL team using four wave mixing. Going to a chi(2) material, fabricated by AdvR, Inc, will significantly increase the available gain, on chip functionality, and eventual deployability in low SWaP environments.
