Research abstract

ĀĀ ĀMetavoxel is developing a modular kit-of-parts for rapidly deploying sustainable and efficient shelters to support mobility, safety, and effectiveness of future multi-domain operations. Joint and Multinational Forces need agility and efficiency for expeditionary maneuvers with high potential of environmental and situational risk. Our solution can reduce force footprint and supply chain demand, increase force endurance and posture, and minimize operational vulnerabilities and exposure risk. Ā ĀĀ ĀIn our approach, we utilize oriented strand board (OSB) production techniques to produce lightweight structural components made with our proprietary 3D panel system design. This can be used to build floors, walls, and roofs of temporary and non-permanent shelters and facilities. In our Phase I, we demonstrated proof of concept and full-scale, low-fidelity prototyping, showed application viability via simulations and analysis, and initial cost and production scaling feasibility.Ā ĀĀ ĀIn our Phase II, we will prove the following:Ā ĀĀ Ā1. Product viability: full scale structural testing, building functionality, and envelope performance. ĀĀ Ā2. Product longevity: demonstration of in-field assembly, disassembly, and reconfiguration. ĀĀ Ā3. Product sustainability: feasibility study of traditional factory-based production vs. in-situ production using locally sourced materials. Ā Ā
