Research abstract

Triton Systems and its partners propose to design and develop innovative CBRN chemical barrier and ballistic plates using graphene and polymeric materials to enable lighter weight CBRN protective garments. In Phase I, we will design and create nanocomposites with excellent chemical permeation resistance and mechanical strength at low weight. These materials will be tested using a permeation test setup with a flame ionization detector (FID) to measure the permeation and breakthrough time of chemicals through the material. Additionally, mechanical tests will be performed on the fabricated free-standing thin film samples. In Phase II, we will continue developing the material and process, scaling up the fabrication strategy to ensure consistent sample quality. Finally, we will collaborate with our commercialization partner to integrate the graphene-polymer nanocomposite into a CBRN protective ensemble.
