Research abstract

The goal of this phase is to develop CFD tools that will be critical for the future development of a full up prototype engine. Building on AR’s success with the DeltaVIBE testing, we would create a complete vision engine concept design shown in Figure 1 with a notional inlet and use this to help size, build and test the RAMJET/Afterburner section of the engine. This phase of the program will focus on predicting the Ramjet and RDRE ejector combined performance with HyPerComp’s CFD capabilities and building a full scale rig of the Ramjet engine section that can be tested with the existing RDRE ejector test rig from the DeltaVIBE program. The results of this testing will allow us to demonstrate the entire engine’s combustion section operating at the critical takeoff condition. These results will be used to validate the CFD tools accuracy, so it can be used in the future design of a full up prototype flight engine.
