Research abstract

This Small Business Innovative Research program addresses the urgent need for reliable battery health assessment within Navy SEAL Delivery Vehicle (SDV) operations. Silver-Zinc (AgO/Zn) batteries, integral to SDV missions, face premature failure attributed to various factors such as zinc dendrites, shape change, and separator degradation. Our proposed Silver-Oxide/Zinc Battery Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) tool aims to swiftly identify potential battery failures, ensuring operational reliability. By focusing on developing detection modalities for these failure modes, our TMDE tool seeks to enable early intervention, thus extending battery pack life and reducing the risk of catastrophic failure.
