Research abstract

Luna Innovations is proposing to update and refine the T-ray terahertz control unit and scanners to improve usefulness for measuring characteristics within and under coatings which are applied to the hulls of vessels.  Luna Innovation THz systems consist of 4 main components: 1.         THz Control Unit (TCU) 2.         Human Machine Interface Hardware (Monitor, Keyboard, and a Mouse) 3.         Remote THz Line Scan Imager 4.         Optical electrical umbilical interconnection the TCU and remote handheld line scanner Key improvements to be made include: ruggedization and size reduction of the various components of the system (TCU, scanner, and umbilical), software enhancements, optimization for lower frequency terahertz bands, and adding new measurement capabilities to the system.  In the proposed staged effort Luna will develop and validate the systems for operation in a dockside environment
