Research abstract
This project establishes a prototype for a robust and innovative capstone event at the conclusion of the United States Space Force (USSF) basic military training (BMT) program. A multi-modal, realistic, 24-hour-long capstone event will offer a unique experience in the final days of BMT, help to craft the culture of the United StatesÆ newest military branch, and provide an unforgettable experience to all Guardians as they begin their career. The current proposed BMT capstone event will utilize multi-modal assessment through scenarios and tasks in real-world and virtual environments to challenge (1) adherence to military bearing, ethos, and ethical standards, (2) individual and team communication, problem solving, and effort, and (3) cognitive domains including full executive functioning, self-monitoring, and mission focus. Taken together, this dynamic event is cognitively and physically challenging, realistic, and drives a sense of accomplishment, pride, and excitement in Guardians as they enter military service.
