Research abstract

To address the DAF’s need to accelerate modernization for global pacing challenges with China, Traverse proposes its Lexis software solution which integrates novel Artificial Intelligence (AI) called Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) with Large Language Model (LLM) that allow local non-technical instructional staff to create new 3D training environments with ease, facilitating the necessary scalablity to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and speed of training its logistics vehicle operators in the inspection, qualification and understanding of their vehicles.  These immersive and dynamic 3D training assets and environments equip airmen with the most realistic training without the actual asset; as well as reduce error through integrated synthetic assets that airmen can query, reference, and interact with. Through Traverse’s solution, airmen will experience physically and mentally demanding operational scenarios, enhancing their preparedness and readiness for actual missions. Immersive training has been found to drive a remarkable 76% increase in learning effectiveness compared to traditional methods. Employees can be trained four times faster in immersive courses that utilize 3D visual representations than in classrooms, leading to better retention and higher conceptual understanding.  Virtual reality serves multiple purposes within the DoD and Air Force, and plays a crucial role in familiarizing personnel with complex vehicles, including aircraft, ground vehicles, and watercraft, by creating immersive and dynamic environments. Based on solid DAF customer and end user engagements, the feasibility of using Traverse’s Lexis has been proven.  Traverse will, in Phase II, successfully develop, test, and demonstrate a fully functional (TRL-7) Lexis platform in for use within the 97th Logistics Readiness Squadron to evaluate its effectiveness, efficiency and accuracy. Based on the results and integration to full-scale employment within the organization, Traverse will develop a plan for future development, commercialization, and enterprise scaling of Lexis in Phase III.
