Research abstract
KIHOMAC, Inc., proposes a Phase I SBIR to develop the plan to adapt an Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Passive Bistatic Radar (PBR) sensor from the on-board Very High Frequency (VHF) to ground-based High Frequency (HF) sensor. This Phase I proposal will result in a comprehensive initial design concept to design and develop a fully modified PBR sensor in support of a Phase II prototype. The Phase I feasibility study will provide a detailed analysis of the technology and adaptation plan and convergence of these system technologies to the Arctic Air Domain. Our objectives in Phase I center on optimization analysis, subsystem integration feasibility, and to down select concept options/variations to the best design of the PBR HF sensor. Phase I feasibility analysis of a low-cost and man packable OTH PBR system will require the following adaptation to the PBR VHF sensor: Coordinate with the Government team and identify representative HF surveillance signals at contractor location to utilize during the research and development phase Design an easily fieldable antenna for selected HF surveillance signals Update PBR processing block parameters to selected HF surveillance signals Coordinate with the Government team and identify currently fielded reconnaissance information systems for Phase II integration of PBR sensor software application The specific documents capturing this feasibility analysis and adaptation plan will include a Final Report containing the bulk of the analysis, with separate deliverables addressing the foundational open architecture design, to support the Phase II prototype development and demonstration. ĀThese deliverables will be marked by frequent engagements with the Government stakeholders in the form of Technical Interchanges and monthly progress reports. The most significant research effort within Phase I would be the signal processing block updates within and OTH PBR adaptation. The largest software development effort within Phase II would be within the doppler map automated dissemination and display function. KIHOMAC is poised to support this modification. With 375 employees - nearly half with prior service experience - we bring a highly engaged team focused on supporting sensor integration and information dominance. ĀOur nation-wide team of leaders, engineers, technicians, and support staff are committed to exactly this type of work. ĀWith the experience of dozens of electrical and software engineering and sensor engineering efforts that have gone into currently fielded reconnaissance systems, the experience of multiple SBIR awards, and a diverse team supported by nine locations, KIHOMAC is the low-cost, low-risk option to the Arctic Information Dominance & Domain Awareness for Rapid Decision-Making.
