Research abstract
Magnetic Anomaly Navigation (MagNav) uses EarthÆs crustal magnetic anomaly as aiding for Inertial Navigation System (INS). The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Kinetic-Kill Hardware-in-the-Loop System (KHILS) Magnetic field Navigation Integration Testbed (MagNIT) provides an environment to put sensors in a realistic magnetic field in order to aid MagNav development. However, AFRL requires a simulation framework into which MagNIT can be inserted for end-to-end testing of MagNav scenarios. Spectral Energies (SE) proposes to provide this capability with our partner. The project will leverage and extend existing MagNav simulation capability to include a Hardware in the Loop (HITL) interface to MagNIT, allowing for the realistic simulation of MagNav scenarios and to account for all aspects of the magnetic field measured by a sensor system.Ā In Phase I SE will develop a plan for the creation of magnetic anomaly simulation that includes the effects of platform generated and external magnetic field noise sources, as well as the development of a prototype capability that demonstrates the effectiveness of the overall MagNav simulation. In Phase II, the simulation framework will be refined and then integrated with the AFRL MagNIT.
