Research abstract

To address the DLA’s need for a secure, reliable and perpetual source for critical microelectronic components, Phoenix Semiconductor Corporation (PSC) is developing an innovative low-cost and scalable approach to deliver drop-in replacements of unavailable or discontinued parts. The PSC parts are form, fit and function compatible with the original part eliminating the need for board redesigns, software updates or downstream modifications and re-qualifications for replacements.  PSC will, in Phase I, identify and engage with DLA leaders and stakeholders. Based on their guidance and feedback, PSC will assemble and rank a set of candidate NSNs that have been discontinued or are at risk of being discontinued.  PSC will provide engineering estimates of the feasibility and resources required to design and manufacture replacements for these parts.  A final prioritized list of candidate parts along with the estimates of resources required for design and manufacture will then inform subsequent proposals where these parts will be built and tested.
