Research abstract

The mission of 15 SPSS, a component of Space Delta 2, is to develop, assess, deliver, and operate cutting-edge Space Domain Awareness (SDA) capabilities to support warfighter needs. As a vital part of the Space Surveillance Network, the 15 SPSS’s ground-based electro-optical deep space surveillance sensors (GEODSS) collects metric data, observations of satellite positions along its field of view, and photometric space object identification date such as visual magnitude measurements during 24/7 operations. This initiative focuses on maximizing the efficiency of telescope and sensor allocations for SDA tasks, research and development, and supporting squadron operations. A significant component of this project is the development of a DevSecOps pathway for both squadron business functionalities and mission-specific capabilities, alongside the creation of a comprehensive 15 SPSS Portal. This portal aims to consolidate marketing, scheduling, optimization, and performance metrics, significantly improving productivity, minimizing administrative efforts, and increasing transparency across the Space Force.  This project will deliver an MVP to optimize telescope mount and sensor usage for contributing Space Domain Awareness (SDA) operations, research & development, mission partner campaigns, maintenance, upgrades, and associated personnel. This MVP will be delivered through a custom path to production that can be extended to other mission capabilities. This path to production will include Development/Test/Production environments for DevSecOps as well as a portal to support to support engineering capability marketing/advertising, scheduling, statusing, optimization, assessment, metrics/dashboard, and creation of SITREPs/MISREPs.
