Research abstract

Duality Systems' AI-Optimized Personnel and Operations Scheduling System project will adapt and enhance a software-as-a-service (SaaS) based medical personnel scheduling platform to meet military objectives for aircrew scheduling. The objectives of this project include introducing preference-based scheduling to military planning; fully automating operations scheduling for 24-hour x 7-days per week, shift-based, operations centers; extending scheduling to task-based flying operations; and automating tracking and scheduling of training requirements. The objectives all also require deployment of this SaaS solution to a DISA Impact Level 4 (IL-4) approved location. The solution will reduce the man-hours related to schedule building, maintenance, and execution by at least 84%; reduce man-hours related to Flight Authorization (FA) process time by at least 50%; reduce the occurrence of human errors in the scheduling process; and enable data integration with the Aviation Resource Management System (ARMS) and Letter of X. This solution will be readily adaptable and generalizable to optimize other complex DoD scheduling challenges, particularly in flying operations units, and will also be commercially developed for marketing and sales as an aircrew scheduling product to U.S. airlines where the potential impact of these innovations is tremendous.
