Research abstract

To address the Army Program Executive Office (PEO) AviationÆs need for advanced solid-state electronic circuit breaker (ECB) solutions, Intellisense Systems, Inc. (Intellisense) proposes to mature and advance, in the Phase II Sequential, the technical and production readiness of the Smart and Efficient ECB for Advanced Management of Power (SEE-AMP) solution. SEE-AMP is a modular line-replaceable unit based on a unique combination of high-reliability ECB configurations designed as new 3U VPX modules as defined by the VITA 94 standard established by Intellisense and Future Airborne Capability Environment, or FACE«, conformant data model power services software. In Phase II, the architecture and electronics were designed for future qualification testing and high-reliability critical functions and to support a pathway to DO-178B/DO-254 Design Assurance Level A. Intellisense has advanced the technical ECB solutions and has significantly advanced the definition of Army modular open systems architecture (MOSA) power distribution. Intellisense has worked with the Army electrical power system component spec model (CSM) team to collaboratively shape future iterations of the CSM and demonstrate the viability of the CSM through component design model development. These advanced prototyping efforts will enable SEE-AMP to be a MOSA technology that is certifiable and qualifiable, ready for testing and evaluation by the Army for inclusion on future and refreshed enduring fleets. In the Phase II Sequential, Intellisense will refine and test the initial Phase II prototype design, leading to the fabrication, integration, and demonstration of the matured SEE-AMP prototype and showcase the ability to program trip currents for a variety of applicable aircraft voltages in a MOSA-based system. Refinement of the underlying technology, including the user interface, will be facilitated through soldier touch points to obtain feedback on usage and automation concerns. Testing will include further risk-reduction testing of the underlying technology and a box-level prototype to mitigate transition risk for environmental and electromagnetic effects. SEE-AMP is poised to be not only the most technologically advanced, modular, and open solution but also the most relevant to soldiers in terms of reducing pilot workload and improving automation and safety. The Phase II Sequential prototype demonstrations will lead to successful transition to production through formal pre-production stages and then to Phase III production.
