Research abstract

The objective of the Phase-I effort proposed by the team at Spectral Energies LLC, Georgia Institute of Technology (main RI), and Purdue University is to develop an efficient and reliable multi-point surface plasma actuator for a rotating detonation augmentor. With this proposed technique, our goal is to demonstrate successful and dependable plasma-assisted detonation for combustor and augmentor applications, thereby enhancing performance across a broad flight envelope using the current generation of fuels and oxidizers. The design of the multi-point surface plasma addresses the challenges posed by high-pressure and high-temperature conditions associated with detonation waves, amplifies the concentration of key combustion radicals, diminishes chemical induction time, and enhances detonability under extreme conditions. The proposed plasma-assisted detonation technique aims to contribute to the improvement of performance, efficiency, and operability in naval aircraft propulsion engines.
