Research abstract

The objective of this effort is to develop a high brightness directed energy weapon (DEW) with systems components that are used in a replaceable and rechargeable way. This Phase I program will be a design trade study, to determine the best ways to achieve this. Forward Photonics (FP) is leading the way in direct diode DEW with its proprietary wavelength beam combination (WBC) technology, allowing for the first time kW-class direct diode lasers with excellent beam quality. These highly efficient lasers, when paired with low size, weight, and power (SWaP) systems components can greatly add to the utility and universality of such DEW systems.
