Research abstract
Spaceports are emerging as critical infrastructure for the future, serving as gateways for both civilian and military endeavors in space. For civilians, spaceports are the launching pads for commercial space tourism, scientific research missions, and satellite deployments, opening up new opportunities for economic growth and technological innovation. On the military front, spaceports provide strategic launch sites for national security satellites, space defense initiatives, and rapid global deployment capabilities, enhancing a nation's defense and surveillance capabilities. As space exploration and exploitation become increasingly integral to modern society, spaceports will play a pivotal role in supporting both civilian and military objectives, marking a new era in space access and utilization. The Spaceports are disadvantaged because of disparate systems and fragmented architectures built up piecemeal over decades, hindering operational efficiency and agility as launch intensity multiplies fueled by commercial demand. Current systems have a monolithic and intractably divisible data collection mechanism used as a standalone data point. The transactions from these systems output an array of user information, such as visual representations of the data collected by each system. The visual representation is interpreted by a human intervention, who then manually translates the data to other systems while using the system during operations. A Common Operating Picture (COP) within the environments has been hampered by the availability of the data from the spaceports. The new systems need to translate into a common conical form digestible and/or usable. This problem is legacy systems inability to move forward at a more rapid pace. The evolution of spaceports past legacy data systems is essential to meet the increasing complexity and scale of future space missions. Upgrading from legacy systems to more flexible, scalable, and secure data platforms enhances operational efficiency, enables real-time decision-making, and supports the integration of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning and blockchain which drive rapid advancement. This technological evolution is crucial for ensuring that spaceports can accommodate the growing demands of commercial space activities, international collaborations, and military applications, positioning them as pivotal hubs for the next generation of space exploration and utilization. The Data Federation Hub is a Lifescale Analytics derived framework that includes processes and methodologies built into an automated system. This system and methodology coupled with agile implementation and automation takes in legacy data models, creates a superset of the legacy data, and makes it useable and available to more modern, updated data-reliant systems. It provides a safeguard of historical knowledge while allowing for the modernization efforts of legacy data producing systems.
