Research abstract

Torrey Pines Logic, Inc (TPL) has a fifth generation Free Space Optical (FSO) communications transceiver core and software protocol called Lightspeed. It was developed over the last 20+ years and operates in full EMCON and otherwise when RF operation is undesired or nonviable. Our core is emitter and receiver analogous, meaning it can utilize practically any frequency of light from deep UV (200nm+) through all visible, NearIR (700-1100nm), SWIR (1100-2500nm), as well a thermal (MWIR and LWIR); we traditionally operate in infrared. We have over 100 unique Lightspeed products that pass voice and data over modulated LEDs at data rates between 1Kbps to 100Mbps and distances from 1m to 15km (15,000m). We propose adapting one of our standard proven FSO products, the L3v2, to meet the specific TAC requirement: Wireless, non-RF, point to point data communication 300m operating distance Low probability of detection and Low probability of interception (LPD & LPI) Low Size, Weight, and Power (SWAP) 800-hour operation time without intervention Highly interference, detection, and exploitation resistant We are adapting a standard product to incorporate the NRF-TAC requirements which signficantly reduces risk and ensures a successful Phase I evolution.Ā We are proposing a TRL 3-4 prototype upon completion of the Phase I which far outpaces typical feasability deliverables.Ā
