Research abstract
TB2 Aerospace has developed a Drone-agnostic, size-agnostic UAV Payload system that allows any appropriately-sized UAV to autonomously capture, collect and deliver a UAV Pod. This would allow for completely autonomous CASEVAC, no soldiers required in the UAV operations. For this project TB2 would resize its proven Group 2 Cargo Pod to a Group 3 CASEVAC Pod. One of the many advantages of the Drone Recharging Operational Payload Systems (DROPS) is that the Group 3 UAV selected by the US Army would not just be a dedicated CASEVAC UAV but is also capable of carrying other Group 3 Pods such as water, fuel, tactical supplies, ISR sensors, CBRN sensors and even weapons systems. The standardized nature of the DROPS system creates the possibility of a true Multi-Mission Payload and Multi-Mission UAV. The CASEVAC Pod would be designed and kitted out with the help of the University of Pittsburgh who are currently working on the TRACIR Program and US Army medical staff with CASEVAC and Golden Hour experience from CDID Medical. We would execute this project with two parallel paths. Firstly would be the ergonomic sizing and layout considerations from the CASEVAC operators. This would include essential equipment routing and placement, medical Corpsman usability assessments in a variable mock-up and further human factors-related design considerations (PI holds a Masters Degree is Human Factors and Ergonomic Engineering). The second design path is the external design of the Pod and the UAV flight testing and handling aspects of the Pod. This would include DROPS integration to the CASEVAC Pod, UAV integration and flight testing and ground handling, such as wheels or a nose wheel system to permit Pod movement with minimal Soldiers.
