Research abstract

With tensions in the South Pacific mounting, warfighters need to be equipped to sustain long days outdoors in subtropic environments. Hydration is the key to physical endurance and peak performance. From 2018- 2022, a total of 11,218 heat-related illnesses were diagnosed at more than 230 military installations and geographic locations—with 17 deaths. The Connected Hydration solution consists of a wearable sensor, worn on the arm, which measures and relays hydration and physiological data wirelessly to a mobile application. Servicemembers then view actionable fluid electrolyte recommendations in real-time. Epicore Biosystems will conduct a 3-month systematic and intensive feasibility study of Connected Hydration system with PACAF/JTF-SA to establish the scope of modifications needed to adapt the core technology to fit DAF mission needs.
