Research abstract

Forward deployed combat medics, Air Force special operators or surgical teams have limited options for the refrigerated transport and storage of cold blood. These troops are often on-the-move, so their refrigerated blood storage container must be very lightweight.ĀĀExisting legacy military blood transport solutions include: 1) active medical refrigerators but they are too large and heavy for mobile troops, and 2) Passive ice coolers that have limited cold duration and no temperature control.ĀĀThere is a capabilities gap for medics that need to transport 4 to 5 units of refrigerated blood in a lightweight package. RINIÆs proposed solution will develop an ultra-lightweight, miniature man-portable battery-operated Blood Refrigerator for Air Force Special Operations Medics. RINI Technologies is uniquely positioned for success with this R&D effort due to our 20-year history developing similar miniature cooling systems for the US military and commercial markets.
