Research abstract

The Tacticum Heavy-Lift Utility Dual Use UAS (Tacticum Pterodactyl) has applications in both USAF kinetic weapons operations, as well as USAF and commercial logistics support roles. ĀThe Pterodactyl will be an autonomous disruptive force to General Warfighting Requirement established military doctrines in US kinetic operations (Army, Air Force, Marine Corp, SOC).Ā It will also disrupt established firefighting doctrines in the National Interagency Fire Center (Boise, ID). The following Air Force units can employ the Pterodactyl.Ā Air Mobility Command, Contingency Response Groups, Air Mobility Operations Groups, USAF Expeditionary Center.Ā It will also complement the Air Combat Command Air Support Operations Groups mission. The AF Special Operations Command can use its offensive and logistics capabilities to support their missions. In this Phase I proposal , we and our partners will undertake a study of multiple types of fuel engines to determine the best solution to meet our stated payload and range goals. Tacticum will develop the hybrid-power solutions for a heavy lift dual use UAS that can lift 1,000 pounds with a Ārange of over 100 miles. Once we have a power source identified we will develop the component supply chain. We will study US national and international markets for the commercial applications we know will follow once a prototype is built and certified as airworthy by the US Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). For public use aircraft, the applicable USG agency certifies airworthiness. There are multiple offices within the Department of Defense that can use this technology; USAF, Army, USMC, USN, US Space and various offices within the Office of Secretary of Defense. Other US government agencies are the Department of Interior (firefighting), Department of Agriculture (firefighting), NASA (celestial body surface landing tests); National Park Service, National Forest Service, U.S. Fish & Game Department, Bureau of Land Management.
