Research abstract

OVERVIEW OF PROPOSAL Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a significant problem for the military and is the “signature wound” of our recent wars. With no medical solutions for TBI recovery, airmen suffer significantly, degrading readiness and performance. Shiftwave is a field proven, noninvasive biomedical device that reduces inflammation and restores the nervous system. Shiftwave uses research-validated pressure waves applied to the body in complex patterns that shift human physiology for the treatment of pain, stress, and fatigue.  We incorporated our breakthrough vibrotactile technology into a portable, foldable, and deployable zero-gravity chair weighing only 40 pounds. Shiftwave is already in market. Shiftwave is currently deployed in wartime Ukraine rebalancing the nervous systems of warfighters with TBI, restoring them to optimal readiness, and returning them to the fight.   TECHNICAL APPROACH & OBJECTIVES  Our Phase 1 effort will identify a USAF partner to research, adapt, test and deliver the Shiftwave TBI solution to the USAF. Establishing Shiftwave as a TBI solution would have broad application to the commercial and overall defense market, delivering increased airmen uptime, readiness, and lethality and reduced medical consequences and suffering for warfighters.
