Research abstract

The United States Department of the Air Force (DAF) and Department of Defense (DoD) currently lack the ability to drive real-time, photo-realistic personas. This gap presents significant problems to both Warfighters conducting Information Operations/ Information Warfare in support of combatant commanders’ missions world-wide and to Warfighters preparing for future conflict by participating in simulations and exercises with role-players. Apira’s AI-based virtual persona system enables users to pilot photorealistic digital humans (avatars) in virtual environments and display them in real-time to popular video, conference, social media, and authentication platforms. The system provides users with an alternative digital identity, obfuscating their true identities and simulating new identities while still enabling a rapport-building realistic human experience. This enables DAF operations including Warfighter Biometric Protection, Information Operations, Virtual and Cyber Operations, and Training & Simulation. In Phase I, Apira plans to clearly identify the prime potential DAF end user(s) of Apira’s non-Defense commercial offering to solve the DAF need; research and describe integration costs and feasibility with current mission-specific products; and research and describe if and how the demonstration can be used by other DoD or Governmental customers.
