Research abstract
In this Phase I effort, Solar Roadways® will address the USAF’s need for a portable, modular, silent, and environmentally sustainable solution for providing drone take-off and landing pads and power and communication support in various military and civilian applications. Solar Road Panels are intelligent solar panels engineered specifically for walking and driving surfaces and can support a semi-truck. The panels contain solar cells and LED lights to create lines/signage and heating elements to help prevent snow and ice accumulation. As intelligent infrastructure, the panels can collect data and be programmed as needed. They have temperature and light sensors and can adjust the heating element temperatures and LED brightness levels as needed.
