Research abstract

Planetary Shelter provides the ONLY rapidly deployable sandbag replacement solution which utilizes a robust, condensed prefabricated material as a formwork, leveraging sand or other on-site particulate material as the primary structural component. Currently, there are limited technologies that can reduce the employment time of sandbags or completely replace the sandbag system with a comparable system that provides equal, or better, levels of protection for personnel. On average, it takes a single Airmen 3 minutes per sandbag and over 6 hours to construct a deliberate fighting position with 50 cubic feet of sandbags. The process of filling and deploying sandbags is extremely time consuming and labor intensive, increasing personnel fatigue and reducing defensive capabilities. In 2022 alone, the CENTCOM AOR had 48 cases of heat exhaustion from its deployed members. Legacy sandbags utilized today have a limited lifecycle capability under environmental Ultraviolet (UV) exposure of 1600 hours (6 months) which reduces their effectiveness and ability to be reconstituted, leaving forward sites dependent upon re-supply or local procurement. The patented Habolith solution solves this paradigm by reducing employment time 80%, with the use of only a 4 person team. The Habolith reinforced fiber material is 50% lighter than existing reinforced alternatives, uses 28% less storage space, and increases the lifespan 10X compared to current alternatives. Planetary ShelterÆs unique and novel mechanized replacement of the sandbag system is the solution to the imminent threat facing rapid and sustainable base fortification by providing expedient, and economical passive defense for personnel in dispersed and austere environments under Agile Combat Employment.Ā???????
