Research abstract

One Kappa Stratos, an Autonomous Stratospheric Drone, addresses the traditional trade-offs in space-based sensing between quantity, quality, and timeliness of data. This solar-powered, high-altitude, long-endurance vehicle offers persistent, ultra-high-resolution imagery with minimal latency due to its proximity to ground stations. It uniquely combines persistence, by monitoring defined locations over extended periods, with flexibility, allowing for swift mode switches and re-tasking. Operating at 20 km, it ensures high accuracy and remains nearly undetectable, revolutionizing data delivery for government and commercial customers. One Kappa's Stratos, a solar-powered UAV, marks a significant leap in ISR operations. Operating continuously at 65,000 feet, it delivers persistent, ultra-high-resolution imagery, reducing information latency. Its low-cost, attritable nature allows deployment of multiple units, ensuring extensive coverage and imposing a strategic burden on adversaries. Stratos's advanced technology ensures the U.S. and its allies maintain an edge in situational awareness and decision-making, reinforcing their position on future battlefields.
