Research abstract

Effectively identifying targets and threats in a battle space is critically important to operations in hostile environments. Infrared (IR) imaging systems have been proved useful for providing battle space awareness in both the day and night, as well as a wide range of atmospheric conditions. Dual-Band imaging systems in the eSWIR and MWIR wave bands offer improved target recognition capabilities over traditional broad band imaging systems, enabling improved performance in degraded conditions. Short wavelength infrared (SWIR) and mid-wavelength infrared (MWIR) sensing and imaging technologies are critical to the success of the US military by providing critical functionality and strategic advantages for all platforms, including ground, sea, air, and space. Tactical IR imaging systems provide critical battle space information for both human and machine consumption. The Army has expressed the need for tactical dual band imaging solutions for operating under high operating conditions while maintaining a size, weight, power, and cost (SWAP-C) amenable to solder operations. Our team proposes to design and develop a specialized and high-performance two-color focal plane array (FPA) and imaging system that maximizes the performance and tactical capabilities in a single low SWAP-C package capable of operating under high operating temperatures (HOT). Episensors Inc. proposes to develop and demonstrate a novel 2-color 1-2.5 Ąm and a 3.0-5.0 ?m dual-band FPA with a resolution equal to or greater than 1280x720 integrated into a compact IDCA package designed for optimal SWAP-C.
