Research abstract

Many advantages are available to dismounted precision targetting systems that integrate dual?band extended short?wavelength infrared / mid?wavelength infrared (eSWIR/MWIR) imaging sensors, and if these sensors can be fabricated at advanced pixel pitches, even further imaging improvements can be made that result in reductions in system?level size, weight, and power (SWaP) and enhanced resolution for long range targeting. However, a number of practical challenges need to be addressed that are unique to dual?band, small pixel pitch sensors and their interaction with SWIR/MWIR radiometric phenomenology; namely minimizing spectral?crosstalk (SCT) and maximizing the sensorÆs modulation transfer function (MTF) and sensitivity. Attollo Engineering will employ analytical and numerical modeling in combination with empirical data to design, evaluate, and iterate sensor designs with the end goal of maximizing the range performance of an 8 Ąm pixel pitch dual band eSWIR/MWIR sensor through optimizing spectral crosstalk, modulation transfer function, and sensitivity. The optimized sensor will be packaged into a compact integrated dewar cooler assembly (IDCA) that can be interfaced with a high performance dual?band optic and integrated into a precision targeting platform for evaluation.
