Research abstract

Innovative Scientific Solutions, Inc. (ISSI) proposes to develop a customized Army variant of the THANOS software system to provide Artificial Intelligence (AI) optimization of probabilistic Army battlefield survivability software specific to US Army forces, equipment, structures, tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs). ĀProbabilistic combat power projections across Army force structures will be enabled in the THANOS tool development, which will account for degradations due to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) attack scenarios. ĀIn addition to the nuclear battlefield environments already resident within the Threat and Hardness Assessment of Nuclear Operational Survivability (THANOS) software, this program will incorporate chemical and biological environments analysis through integration with the Hazardous Prediction and Assessment Capability (HPAC) code or other CBRN analytical tool available to ISSI during the Phase II program. ĀOne of the most significant aspects of this program will be the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) functionality into THANOS to enhance Army war gaming capabilities for battlespace management for CBRN effects, automatic generation of most likely and highest risk threat courses of action (COAs) based on adversary threat TTPs, multi-domain terrain, collected intelligence, and Blue Force COAs. ĀISSI will also use THANOS for synthetic data generation to train the ML models and assess Army battlefield scenarios and demonstrate probabilistic battlespace management and optimized war gaming capability. The Phase II product will include visualization and post-processing tools for scenario animations, maps, and time-dependent qualitative and quantitative evaluations. ĀWe will explore options to leverage cloud computing DoD platforms and assess coding modifications for eventual hosting on the Joint Warfighting Cloud Capability (JWCC).
