Research abstract

One of the most critical functions of US Space Force (USSF) operations is the position and timing of military and commercial systems, including satellites, offensive weapons, defensive systems, and communications.  However, all modern position, navigation and timing (PNT) solutions rely heavily on the Global Positioning System (GPS) making them vulnerable to jamming, disruption, and signal obstructions. This dependency can be debilitating for critical operations in challenging, contested environments, which underscores the critical USSF need for alternative PNT (ALT-PNT) solutions.  To meet this strategic priority, Innovative Scientific Solutions, Inc. (ISSI) proposes a robust, multi-sensor ALT-PNT system comprised of integrated hybrid PNT solutions, including: High-Precision Inertial Measurement Units, Multiple GNSS (System Global Navigation Satellite) Receivers, Radar-based Navigation, and innovative Sensor Data Integration Algorithms to seamlessly combine and correct data from the above components. Specifically, the Phase II solution will leverage ISSI’s development platform from the Air Force strategic missile inertial sensor domain. It will apply lessons learned in sensor data integration and a demonstrated flight test bed to develop, test, and mature an ALT-PNT solution for future USSF applications.
